Whatever we do, we will do it better if we give it our full concentration and attention. Being a Christian starts instantly when we invite Jesus into our hearts and then He gives our minds a front-row seat in learning little by little what He wants us to learn, what He has done in our hearts and what He wants to do in our lives. He makes our hearts perfect instantly but teaching our minds takes time and study. Ephesians 3:17a: That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; . . .Philemon 1:14: But without thy mind would I do nothing; that thy benefit should not be as it were of necessity, but willingly. Romans 12:2: And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.2 Corinthians 10:5: Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; Mark 12:30: And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.
The Holy Spirit wants to teach us to think the right thoughts. John 14:26: But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. Psalms 19:14a: Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, . . .Psalms 113:3: From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same the LORD*S name is to be praised. God is WORTH thinking about all day and every day. Even though we are not capable of that lofty goal, it is a good one. These passages take away my excuses that I can let my mind wander aimlessly wherever it wants to go and that I can think idle or sinful thoughts without consequences. |
